Class: 5 - Lesson: 7 Format Factory (Insert Video, Audio and Change Format)

Purpose: To learn how to capture photos, audio and video; how to convert the format of audio and video; and how to insert audio and video into a presentation. Gaining knowledge of advanced tools (Format Factory).

No. of Classes

One or two classes (teacher's decision).

Material Required

Laptop with camera, OpenOffice, Format Factory or Media Cope, any MP4 and MP3 files.

Prior Knowledge

Students should know:

  • How to type text.
  • The basics of 'Impress'.

  • Teacher Instructions
    1. Teachers should explain the file extensions of images, audio and video.
    2. Make the students convert a video from one format to another.
    3. While teaching, use the terms "Format Factory" and "convert", etc., so that students become familiar with them.
    4. Teachers should have the material video files ready for the exercise.
    5. Explain to the students why we need to convert the format of audio and video files.
    6. Point out aspect ratio to the students. If a picture or video is made only broader or only longer, the people and other real-life objects in it will not look proper. We should try not to change the aspect ratio. If a picture is needed in a different aspect ratio (say a square picture is needed but a rectangular one is available), cropping may be a better option.
